Flicks' Advertising Picks - FairWinds Goes to the Movies

Digital real estate, in the form of domain names, social media usernames - and soon new top-level extensions like .MOVIE - is the new promotional toolkit for skilled production companies and the brands that collaborate with them. 

FairWinds selected 12 blockbusters on the U.S. News and World Report 2013 Summer Blockbuster Movie Guide and looked at how production companies are digitally targeting moviegoers this summer. Some key results:

  • The majority - 42 percent - use the domain name structure "TitleMovie.com"
  • Seventeen percent use a catchy domain name:
    • ItsBetterUpHere.com (Elysium)
    • PutOnTheMask.com (The Lone Ranger)
    • 58 percent of movies advertise social media handles in their trailers - with 24 percent choosing ONLY to use social media handles
    • Movies can do more with complementary digital real estate
